About Touch Up Guys

Our Origins

Touch Up Guys founders Fred & Cheryl Hawken launched the franchise in 1991 in Queensland, Australia.  Fred had identified a niche market in the mobile repair of paintwork on motor vehicles.  After a chance meeting with a like-minded entreprenuer, Boyd Starkey who specialised in the repair of plastic bumpers, the concept of Mobile Paint & Bumper repairs was born.

1991 to 2005

Originally the franchise was not meant to be a franchise at all, but rather a small number of vans sharing a name and concept.  Fred once said, "wouldn't it be great if we had 5 vans on the road one day".   Initially, "guys" were fascinated with the repair concept and asked "can you teach me how to do that ?" .  It was some 11 van operation later that Fred and Boyd sold their territories to embark on "franchising".

Almost 2 decades later, Touch Up Guys approaches 150 van operations across Australia and New Zealand.  A Training & Research Centre located at Burleigh Heads in Queensland now operates 8 induction training session per year while providing all the backup, support, research and development for the group.

2006 & beyond

Although the largest and dominant Mobile Paint & Bumper Repair franchise in Australia and New Zealand, the same franchise culture on which Fred and Boyd built their original vans operations remains.  The simplicity of "Service, Quality, Price" underlines the group's focus.
